An Excavation Contractor That Actually Lives in York County, PA

Crone's Excavation & Demolition is based right here in Dover, and York County is our primary service area. Owner Brandon Crone grew up on this side of the river and built the business around the kind of work people in this county actually need. That covers everything from clearing a wooded lot up near Dillsburg, to digging a foundation in Spring Garden Township, to running a new septic field on a farmstead outside Hanover.

York County is a big, mixed county. The city of York sits in the middle, but most of what surrounds it is rural farmland, small boroughs like Dover and Dillsburg, and growing suburban townships pushing out toward Adams County and the Susquehanna. The soils change as you move across it. Red shale and siltstone show up close to the surface in a lot of the higher ground, while heavier clay holds in the lower areas. That matters when you're digging a foundation, installing a septic field, or trying to get a yard to drain properly.

We've worked across most of York County's townships, and we know the ones that take longer on permits, the ones with strict erosion-control inspections, and the ones where the sewage enforcement officer expects to see specific details on a septic install. That local familiarity is the difference between a job that takes three weeks and the same job that takes six.

Soils, Townships, and What That Means for Your Project

York County's red-shale and siltstone soils run close to the surface in a lot of places, particularly the rolling ground around northern Dover, Dillsburg, and Conewago Township. We come ready for rock when the lot suggests it, and we price the work honestly when we hit it.

Down toward the southern end of the county, around Hanover and the Mason-Dixon line, heavier clay soils show up. Clay holds water, which makes it tougher for traditional septic absorption fields and gives drainage projects a different set of requirements. We've installed enough sand mound systems and French drains in those soils to know what works.

Every township handles permits a little differently. We've passed inspections across most of them, and we coordinate the permit process so the work starts when it's supposed to instead of sitting in a queue.
