Sewer Line Excavation in Dover, PA

New sewer line installation, lateral replacements, old cast iron to PVC conversions, and public sewer tie-ins handled by a crew that started in plumbing.

Overview

Sewer Line Excavation by a Contractor Who Knows Pipe

Sewer line excavation is the kind of job that's better done once than fixed three times. Crone's Excavation & Demolition installs and replaces sewer lateral lines for homeowners and builders across Dover, York County, Harrisburg, Dillsburg, Camp Hill, and Hanover. Brandon's plumbing background means the line that goes in the ground is set with the slope, the joints, and the bedding it needs to last.

Most of our sewer line work falls into three buckets. New construction laterals running from a new home to the public main or a septic tank, full replacements of failed cast iron or clay lines on older homes, and tie-ins from older properties onto newly available public sewer. The third one is something we've done a lot of as more parts of York County have moved off septic over the last few years.

If you've already had a plumber camera the line and tell you it needs replaced, send us the report when you call. The more we know about what's down there before we walk the property, the better the quote.

What Sets Us Apart

Why Plumbers and Homeowners Send Us Sewer Work

Sewer line excavation lives or dies on slope, joints, and bedding. Get any of the three wrong and the line backs up. We get all three right.

Slope Shot With a Laser

Gravity sewer lines need consistent fall. We shoot the slope, not eyeball it. Lines run clean for decades.

Clean Joints

Plumbing background means joints get set right the first time. No leaks, no roots finding their way in.

Cast Iron to PVC Done Right

Older homes often need the transition handled at the foundation. Our customers tell us this is one of our strengths.

Township Tie-In Experience

Tying into the public main is its own process. We've done it in most York County townships and know what each one wants.

Cleanouts Built In

Cleanouts installed at proper intervals and locations. If the line ever needs snaked, no digging required.

Yard and Driveway Restored

Lawn or gravel drive over the trench is restored to as close to original as the work allows.

Replacing Old Cast Iron Sewer Lines

Cast iron sewer laterals from the 1940s through the 1970s are everywhere in older parts of York County. Most are at or past their service life. We dig the line, cut at the foundation, install new PVC with the right slope and proper joints, and tie back into the interior plumbing cleanly. The transition at the wall is the part nobody else does right.

Public Sewer Tie-Ins for Septic Properties

When the township brings public sewer down a road that's always been on septic, every homeowner has the option to tie in. We run the new lateral from the house to the main, cap and decommission the existing septic per regulations, and coordinate the inspection and the township sign-off.

What to Know

Sewer Realities for Older Homes Around Dover and the Region

If you've got an older property and the toilet keeps backing up, here's what we usually find.

Tree Roots in Old Joints

Clay and cast iron lines with cracked joints become root highways. Once roots are in, snaking is a temporary fix.

Belly in the Line

A sag in the line collects waste. Often only visible on camera. Has to be re-pitched, can't be cleaned.

Orangeburg Pipe

Some 1940s to 60s homes have Orangeburg, a tar-paper pipe that deforms over time. Always a replacement, not a repair.

Cracked Cast Iron at the Foundation

The most common failure point. Crack at the wall lets soil in, soil clogs the line, line backs up.

Old Tap to the Main

Older taps at the public main can leak. We replace the tap when the line gets replaced, with the authority's permission.

Permit and Inspection

Every sewer replacement triggers a township or authority inspection. We coordinate it as part of the job.

Common Questions

Sewer Line Excavation FAQ

Both. New construction laterals from the house to the main, full replacements of failed cast iron or clay lines, and tie-ins from older homes onto newly available public sewer. We've done quite a few of those across older Dover and York neighborhoods.

Yes. That's actually a job our customers tell us we do especially well. Brandon's plumbing background means the transition from old cast iron to new PVC gets done cleanly, properly sloped, and with the joints sealed right.

We work around trees where we can, and where we can't we discuss the options with you up front. Sometimes a small tree comes out. Sometimes we route the line slightly different. Either way you know the plan before we start digging.

Yes. Tying into the public main is its own job and requires coordination with the township or municipal authority. We've done these tie-ins across multiple townships in York County and we know what each one requires.

Standard practice. We install cleanouts at the right intervals and at the right locations so the line can be snaked or jetted later without digging anything up. It's an inexpensive add at install time and a lifesaver years down the road.
